Keg (Insert) Blanks
Looking for keg (insert) blanks? We can turn them for you from your 4' lengths of cast acrylic rod or other round rod stock.
Keg Blanks: Material with tenon turned (one can add tone channel drilling, back boring, and o-ring groove(s) at additional cost)
Minimum run/batch size: THREE 4-foot sticks or 12 feet minimum, completely cut into keg blanks.
We will cut and turn your acrylic or acetal rods into blanks to your specifications. This does not include any shaping of the keg, only turning the tenon (dowel like portion or shank) of the blank. Tolerances on length are +/- .020" and .002" on the diameter of the tenon. We generally aim for .001" oversize from the specified dimension on acrylic material to allow for sanding and polishing. Non-sanded materials (usually Delrin/Acetal) we aim for .001" - .002" undersize of the specified dimension. You may request/specify the under/oversize method not be used on your blanks. Tolerances on the tenon are quoted at +/-.002" but if you remove thermal expansion from the equation tolerances are usually more along the lines of +/-.001". The surface finish left from the machining process generally only requires light sanding with ≈600 grit sand paper and then buffed or flame polished.
Pricing varies by length and diameter of the tenon of your blank and starting material diameter, but is generally $3.00 - $5.00 per part with a minimum of THREE 4' sticks cut completely in to blanks (typical yield is 11-12 parts per stick).
Please Note: Tenons over 2.200" in length (not entire part length - just the turned tenon) may result in added costs or may not be possible without severe tool chatter. Keeping your tenon at 2.200" or shorter is STRONGLY SUGGESTED! Longer is certainly possible, but can be problematic, or require a different machine setup, reduced feed rates and speed, and that can add more cost.
This is based on cutting parts from a 4' stick. Blanks already cut to length will be notably more expensive.
Tone Channel drilling and back boring is available. Please see "Tone Channel and Exhaust Back Boring" for more information.
