Instruction Manual:

-  If you are purchasing the Tapered Shank Holder - PLEASE be sure to check your taper size on your lathe before purchasing the holder with this mandrel.  #1 Morse taper is ≈.475" at the large diameter side of the taper.  #2 Morse Taper is ≈.700" at the large diameter side of the taper.  Tapers are NOT interchangable without adapter sockets.  We have seen many of the import lathes with incorrect taper specifications in the manual (ie Manual says #1 MT, but the machine actually has a #2MT) - so be sure to check before you order. 

-  The taper shank holder for the PLS is ONLY available in #2 Morse Taper.  To the best of our searching, there is not a #1MT holder made, therefore the only way to use the PLS on a #1MT lathe, is to get a collet chuck and get the PLS mandrel without a holder.

-  This mandrel is NOT for use without the tail stock.  Injury or death could result from improper use.  A piece of steel shooting out of, or bending on the lathe at high RPM is a recipe for disaster.  If you require a pin style mandrel for use without a tail stock, please look at the PINSTUB mandrels (5/8 and 3/4").

-  This mandrel requires a very accurate bore in the blank.  It is STRONGLY recommended that you drill the blank 1/64" undersize, and then use a 5/8" chucking reamer to open up the bore.  A boring bar used on a metal lathe is also a very good alternative.  Your bore needs to be .626" - .627" to work properly with the pin locking function, or you will need to shim up the locking pin with tape, mylar, or shim stock.

The PLS mandrel is more of an "intermediate to advanced" call makers mandrel.  To use the pin lock portion the blank must be bored accurately to function properly.  It is recommended that one drills undersize, and then finishes the bore to size with a 5/8" chucking reamer.
